While it is difficult to know the exact number of edits to Williams’s score for The Phantom Menace, Rick Kline, the re-recording mixer for its direct sequel (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, 2002), has said that there were tens of thousands of alterations made to that film’s score.^[9] Considering that the post-production process was essentially unchanged between the films, it becomes clear that the scale of modifications made to Williams’s score for The Phantom Menace far exceeds those made to Horner’s score for Aliens. Much of this difference is a direct result of the many changes to post-production caused by the adoption of digital editing technologies.
