Conceiving a Decor, from the Chef décorateur to the Production Designer - Text 5

These two images for Christophe Gans’ La Belle et la Bête (2014) were created digitally by Thierry Flamand, production designer since the early 1990s. Close in spirit to Trauner’s models, Flamand’s ambience drawings, called “concept art,” are processed digitally in a way in keeping with the story’s world of marvels.

In a quite different vein, the “moodboard” created by Anne Seibel, production and architectural designer since the 2000s, are the result of a diversification of teaching methods and deepening cultural exchanges. In the credits to Woody Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight (2014) she is listed as the film’s production designer; as such, she is exempt from the construction work taken on by the set decorator.
