Description
In 1924, Bálazs had already addressed the ability of the arrangement of shots to produce meaning or affective responses: in Der sichtbare Mensch (The Visible Man, 1924) he used the term Bilderführung (“the linking of images,” or, literally, establishing a “line of images”) to describe the succession of shots in a film and the resulting effects.
