In the 1810s, the artisans in Sainte-Croix, extending the know-how acquired in under-dial work in clock-making, meaning assembling the parts which move a clock’s arms and produce its various sounds, began to specialize in the manufacture of music boxes. Just as these “music makers” created new melodies by increasing the number of reeds, pins and cylinders in music boxes, the features of the Bolex camera facilitate various subtleties of expression.
