A Brief History of the Script and Scriptwriting - Text 2
In the early twentieth century, as films grew in length and required more preparation, there appeared a document setting out the idea of the film and called an outline (story outline, script outline, scenario outline, etc.) which took the form of a list of numbered scenes introduced by a simple title or a one-line summary. This list of numbered scenes would soon be fleshed out – summaries became more detailed, intertitles and inserts were added, etc. – and the preparatory document became a true scene-by-scene plan, known as the scenario script.[4]
