Extending a Decor: (Very) Special Work - Text 2
Following the early years of kinematography, trick effects/decor techniques shifted from an artisanal mode of production, taking place relatively infrequently, to tools incorporated into the film’s production itself. After the First World War, a new generation of film technicians appeared, at a time when film directing was becoming increasingly methodical and thought-out, when know-how was becoming more complete and innovative, and the painted backdrop was yielding to three-dimensional decors.
Trick effects come into play when the construction of a monumental decor on a scale of 1:1 cannot be carried out.
