Montage in the USSR and Its Fifteen Fundamental Procedures According to Semyon Timoshenko - Text 8

The following chapter, entitled “The Rhythm of Montage and the Formal Method of Its Study” (Ритм монтажа и формɑльный mеmoд егo исследoвɑния) shows graphs of variations in the length of shots, changing shot scales and contrasting movement within a shot. From his observations on these graphs, Timoshenko concludes that precise study of these elements would make it possible to save on production costs and advance the overall theorisation of montage, and thus of cinema.
