The Akeley Specialists - Text 7
Some of these modifications gave the camera a multi-functional quality, while others added to its reliability. In each case, operators controlled the camera’s use by means of technical modifications in order to adapt it to their needs in particular situations, such as filming in a sandy desert or in the small space of an airplane. It is interesting to note that when the camera was replaced by more modern new technologies in the late 1930s and early 1940s, some operators modified their new cameras by adding to them parts from the Akeley, in particular the viewfinder and the tripod head.[15]
