Cranks and Motors - Text 8
Autour de L’argent, a fascinating short documentary directed by Jean Dréville on the set of Marcel L’Herbier’s L’argent (1928), reveals that, while several of the Debrie Parvo cameras used on the set had been fitted with electric motors, their cranks had not been removed. This suggests that electric motors were seen as convenient accessories expanding the possibilities of the camera, but not as a revolutionary breakthrough that would have rendered the crank obsolete.
