Cinéma Vérité and Direct Cinema - Text 6
In 1980, in his preface to the catalogue of that year’s Cinéma du réel film festival, Morin added to his ideas on cinéma vérité in the following terms:
there were two ways of conceiving cinéma vérité. The first was to hold that one was bringing the truth. The second was to pose the problem of truth... Meaning that the cinema which asks itself the most serious and most difficult problems with respect to illusion, unreality and fiction, is the cinema of reality, whose mission is to confront the most difficult problem posed by philosophy in the past two millennia: that of the nature of reality.[8]
