The first tripod heads making it possible to shift the viewpoint without actually moving the camera in space appeared as early as 1897, when British cinema pioneer R.W. Paul designed a device enabling the production of pans. Paul used it to film the procession organized as part of the celebrations held for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria that same year.[2] Other devices based on the same principle will soon appear on the market.
